Web x.0 checklist

A few things I think need to happen soon:

1. Google needs to be taken down several notches. Not that I have anything against google, it’s just that I think too many people see them as the end-all-be-all of companies, technology, and search and too many people in the media and in blog-land have the hots for Sergey and Larry.

2. MySpace needs to go away.

3. Everyone who makes web sites needs to check out the Yahoo! Design Pattern Library and either start using these or create and posting their own patterns somewhere.

  1. You know what I think is neatest about the Yahoo! pattern thingy? On their explanation page, they have four ratings: 1) in Progress, 2) working solution, 3) best practice, and 4) the Yahoo! way.

I like that “The Yahoo! way” and “best practice” are not necessarily the same. Mighty humble of them.

Unless you read it as “The Yahoo! way is even better than the best practice.”

Thanks (or not) to MySpace, a dude I used to pal around with when I was 4, 5, or maybe 6 years old found me. Talk about wierd. But I don’t disagree with you.

  2. Margaret says:

And yes web design could be standardized. Web design, and web designers, are annoying anyway. See Roger Black for evidence. Or any “design shop” web site. Bleh.
